World Book Night: Spread the Love of Reading
Hello,
I wanted to let families know of a great opportunity. World Book Night takes place in April. It is an opportunity for people in our community to distribute 20 free books to light/non-readers. Book givers have to be 16, but students could definitely help their families distribute books. Examples of places where books could be distributed include: homeless shelters, nursing homes, WTA transit station, WWU, WCC, BTC, downtown, the mall, food bank, low income neighborhoods/schools, etc. I've given books out throughout the community over the last two years. It's a great opportunity. Here's information about how to get involved:
http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/how-do-i-get-involved/be-book-giver-us
Class related:
Please watch for an email from me about an opportunity to join your student for our Friday Everybody Reads in December. A note will go home as well.

Updated for the Week
The blog is updated for the week. The homework section is now updated.
This week we are moving into our Short Story unit. Students are working in small groups on the elements of Ancient Civilizations so that they can create their own.
More information will be posted shortly about the Short Story assessment and Ancient Civilization assignment.
Students submitted their Narrative Assessments last week and/or on Monday. You will see it listed in Skyward as COM (complete) if it is turned in. I will let you know when grades are posted for this assessment. I've read/edited a lot of the copies as drafts, so I expect there will be some great progress.
Vocabulary assessment 3 is also in Skyward. I noticed that a lot of students that did not complete the homework received 2's and 1's. I will let any student re-test on this assessment next week. They need to study and have the homework complete before they re-test.

Dear Families,
Today students took flyers home for book orders (September and October Middle School Tab). I will typically send home flyers once a month with students that request a copy.

Take Home Conferences and Missing Books
Hi all,
Students will be taking home a take home conference to complete over Spring Break. This will include work samples/reflections for all of their classes. Please keep an eye out for this to come home on Friday.
I also would love your help! Please keep an eye out for books that should be returned to school (specifically books that are labeled "Kirkman"). I am missing numerous books from the classroom library.
Thank you for your help and support!
